Choose product pages to review
Start with a defined group so you can tell what you checked. For example, choose a collection, recently added products, or a short list of products that matter to your shop. Note the review date and the pages included.
Open each page as a shopper would, in a private browser window if that helps you avoid an account-specific view. If a product has options such as size or color, include the options that change its page links or destination.
Check each link on the product page
Work through the clickable links a shopper can see. Depending on the product page, that may include:
- Breadcrumbs or links back to a collection
- Size, fit, materials, care, or instruction guides
- Shipping, returns, or other shop policy pages
- Downloads such as a product manual or specification sheet
- Related product links and links to a maker or brand
For each one, record the visible link text and where you expect it to lead. Click it, note the final address in the browser, and check that the destination loads the expected product or information. For a document, make sure the file opens and is the right document. Repeat the check for a variant when its links differ.
A missing-page error, a redirect to an unrelated page, the wrong product or variant, a document that will not open, or an in-page link that does not reach its section are all worth recording. A temporary error can have another cause, so mark it as intermittent and check it again before treating it as confirmed.
Record enough detail to investigate
Keep one record for each affected link. A clear record lets someone else reproduce the issue without guessing which product, option, or destination you meant.
- Product
- Product name and, if useful, its SKU or selected option
- Page and link
- Product-page address, visible link text, and expected destination
- Observed result
- Final address, message shown, and what loaded instead
- How to reproduce
- Steps taken, including the product option and where you clicked
- When and where
- Date and time, browser, and device or screen size
- Evidence and owner
- A screenshot if useful, who will follow up, and the next action
Add a status such as new, assigned, fixed, or verified. Keep screenshots focused on the broken link and avoid including shopper account or payment details.
Assign follow-up and verify the fix
Separate confirmed broken destinations from links that failed once or need another look. Assign each confirmed issue to someone who can update the product page, destination, or file, and write down the next step and owner in the same record.
After a change, repeat the original steps on the same product page and option. Check that the link now reaches the intended destination, then record the retest date and result before marking the issue verified. If it still fails, leave it open with the new result so the next person has the latest evidence.
A small, consistent review is easier to follow up than an untracked list of links. CartKestrel remains planned; it does not currently check live shop pages or monitor links.
